Build the Capability You Already Use Every Day
In council roles, you’re often juggling community expectations, internal pressures and compliance demands — all while keeping operations moving. This qualification helps you formalise your experience, strengthen your leadership capability and step confidently into higher responsibility within local government.Working in local government often means stepping into responsibility before anyone officially hands it to you — handling community enquiries, supporting teams, coordinating projects, keeping processes compliant and making sure nothing falls through the cracks. Yet without a recognised qualification, moving into coordinator or senior officer roles can feel out of reach.
The LGA50120 Diploma of Local Government is designed for people already contributing to council operations who want to strengthen their leadership capability, formalise their skills and improve their confidence in managing people, risks, service delivery and compliance. Through practical, council-based assessments, you’ll develop the structured capability expected in modern local government environments.
This qualification suits officers, coordinators, technical staff and team leaders across all council areas — including community services, operations, planning, rates, corporate services and customer experience.
