If you have been in the same job for a while, you may be feeling undervalued and frustrated about your career progression.
Most of us have a ton of industry experience but just can’t seem to move up into those higher positions!
The truth is, getting promoted into a higher position is great for your career. A promotion enables you to work in more important roles, earn a higher salary and can give you a greater sense of accomplishment.
In this article, we discuss some handy tips you can use to help stand out from the crowd and increase your chances of getting a promotion.
1 – Let It Be Known
Hard work is important. However, your work ethic doesn’t always speak for itself. When looking to move up in your career you must be visible.
Let everyone know you have more to offer. Most people are so busy with their own work to notice all of the extra value you are bringing. So, let it be known. Be proactive and let your colleagues know everything that you have to offer.
People in senior positions have a greater understanding of how things work outside of their job roles. They can see the bigger picture and identify areas to provide more value to the business.
Take the time to figure out what you can do to make yourself more valuable to the company and go after. Ask yourself: what can I do to provide more value and help get the business closer to its goals.
3 – Keep The Records
Keep good records of what you are doing. If you are looking to be more promotable in your career, you should keep records of all the accomplishments you are making.
Use these records to determine what else you can do and to show others what you have already done. It is hard to dispute your accomplishments when you have them down on paper and recorded!
Getting feedback from your boss can be a very positive way to show you are a good candidate for promotion.
You will also gain an understanding of the areas you should be focusing on to improve your chances of getting a promotion. By engaging with your employer you are taking the initiative to solve greater problems and become a more valuable employee.
5 – Consider Formal Qualifications
Getting quality training and formal qualifications is one of the best ways to create exciting new career opportunities and fast-track towards getting that promotion.
Formal qualifications show employers you have more than just experience, you also have the skills and knowledge to get the job done!
One of Global Training Institute students Kerry recently completed her Diploma of Leadership and Management. Hear what she had to say:
“I was concerned coming into the diploma if I was going to be able to get it finished juggling other things as well. The support I had was amazing!” I’d like to thank Global training institute; without them, I don’t think I would have gotten my promotion.
