What is an Entrepreneur?
An entrepreneur is a person of incalculable value in a capitalist system. An entrepreneur is someone first and foremost who sees opportunity and seizes on it. As someone who takes the chance of starting up a new business and/or of developing a new product, an entrepreneur is someone often identifies and works in a niche market. This development of the niche is a key factor in the expansion of the economy and so entrepreneurs provide a valuable service just by virtue of being whom or what they are.
Since they are working in new areas entrepreneurs can be described as risk-takers. Although, they are on the one hand, almost certainly motivated by money, entrepreneurs are also motivated by the desire to do things their own way. Entrepreneurs tend to be very independent thinkers who enjoy the creativity and stimulation of creating something from nothing.
What makes entrepreneurs different from other people who open businesses based solely on financial concerns or upon the advice of outside sources, is that entrepreneurs are stimulated by their inner passion and vision. Often, they are driven by their ability to see a new solution to an old problem and their true desire is to share that vision with the rest of the world.
Of course being an entrepreneur provides many benefits. Since you are your own boss, there is no one you have to answer to … beyond your creditors. This can be a double-edged sword since it means that it is your sole responsibility to determine how to attain success. This also results in a lot of pressure but if your motivation is high this can be invigorating rather than daunting.
Another benefit of being an entrepreneur is that you can make your living doing something that you love rather than just having a job. Doing what you love means that you are never really working because every moment is joyful. It also means that as long as you are pursuing your dream, you are always employed.
Because entrepreneurs are ultimately reliant only on themselves, they also need to be highly independent. This does not mean; however, that they will not seek advice from other entrepreneurs or business owners, employees or contacts, etc. when they are about to make a major decision. It just means that they understand that ultimately the decision is their own. In some sense, an entrepreneur is someone who can trust their own instincts.
Another characteristic of an entrepreneur, at least of the most successful ones, is that they are good planners. Being in business means that you need to plan your time well. After all, time is money. The more time you waste on the less money you will make. In this respect, it is extremely important that an entrepreneur be able to distinguish time-savers from time-wasters and to budge their time accordingly.
In the final analysis, an entrepreneur is someone who is able to wear many hats and feel comfortable in all of them.
